I Heart Tivobees

So my roomie got us Tivo, which was delivered mid-day yesterday. It's probably the most awesome thing ever. No, scratch that, it IS the most awesome thing ever.

First off, setup is a breeze. And if you have a problem (in my case, we have no idea what our cable service is, cause... ummm... they don't know we have it), customer service is incredibly helpful.

In any case, first and foremost, you can pause, rewind and fast-forward the TV. Starting from the time you watch a channel, the wittle Tivo box keeps up to half an hour recorded. So for example, my roomie and I watched The Daily Show while my g-friend was taking a nap. Then, when she woke up, we rewound it so she could watch the whole show again with us.

Then, when we were watching Law & Order, we paused at a certain point to make some dinner, which meant that we could fast forward through the commercials, until our recording caught up to the present. This is the only frustrating feature of Tivo: I've already gotten so used to fast forwarding through the commercials, I get a little upset when you can't watch television that hasn't happened yet.

Meanwhile, the other great feature, of course, is recording TV. It's basically a more easily programmable VCR. The Tivo keeps it's schedule updated every 48 hours, so if you tell it, "Hey, I want every new episode of The OC" it'll do that.

Or, if you say, "I want every episode of Law & Order," it'll explode and crash in, like five minutes.

Kidding! It even knows when it's full, and deletes old programs. That's pretty awesome, you beautiful, intelligent piece of hardware.

The final awesome thing about Tivo is that you can go through and tell it which programs you like and dislike, and then it'll form a suggestion list from that. If you have space on your Tivo, it will ALSO record programs it thinks you might like.

So, last night, we set a season pass for South Park, which it recorded at Midnight. Then, when I woke up this morning, it had also recorded Fatherhood and Monument Avenue, whatever that is.

But I will watch them, because Tivo tells me too.

I also noticed, when I woke up this morning, that Tivo was making a phone call, and, very soon, will start making French Toast.

Actually, that might be my g-friend making french toast. I get her confused with Tivo.
