Q: Why The Hell Is Election Day Today And Not Last Tuesday?

A: Because Election Day isn't the first Tuesday of November as you (and I) previously thought. Election Day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November.

This is to ensure that Election Day does not fall on November 1st aka All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation on the Roman Catholic Calendar. So next time this comes around to confuse you (and I) in 2011, who do we have to thank? ALL THE FAITHFUL SAINTS AND MARTYRS, KNOWN AND UNKNOWN.

New York Citizens: Get out there and vote for a mayor!
New Jersians and Virginians: Choose that governor!
Everyone else: Uhh...I'm sure you have a lot of...state senators...and whatever.

Out here in CA we have "democracy" so we get to vote ALL THE TIME. Aren't you jealous?

And I get to cover today's local elections! And like any good Wendy's establishment, I'm here until midnight or later! The only difference is "what tastes right" here is delicious, mouth-watering journalism. Mmmmm.
