Whew! Sketchfest is now up and running and on its feet, with a totally solid Thursday underneath its belt. There were people there, they seemed to enjoy themselves, and the whole thing ran basically on time. There were some seriously awesome shows, too, which was the most important thing...Cody Rivers Show kicked things off in amazing style with a high-energy surrealist blast of comedy - it was all incredibly physical and interesting across the board. One sketch ran in slow-motion for, I shit you not, at least 10 minutes, but it was uniformly fascinating and hilarious. Also, incredibly nice guys. I hope to see them again on the circuit sometime soon. My other absolute favorite from last-night was Dusty Warren's 20-minute one-man-show which was just balls-out great. Awesome character work, and monologues that were written and had structures like sketch. Just perfect storytelling, told well, and very funny. He deserved his standing ovation completely and utterly. I was very happy.
Other highlights: Free Love Forum had some great new video bits which I enjoyed very much, Kurt & Kristen were superfun, especially Kurts song about Kristen being a horse and Fempyre warmed the cockles of my womanist heart.
I'm a tired guy right now! But I'm ready for two more nights. RED BULL! RED BULL!
