When I listen to a song for the very first time, I tend to take it in as a whole, not really paying attention to any of the lyrics. And if a track grabs me, I'll usually find myself listening to it over and over until one day, the words just suddenly click, and it's like I'm really hearing the song for the first time. It's a strange way to experience music, I think, but for my favorite songs, I can usually remember exactly when and where they first clicked into place for me. And that's pretty cool.
Anyways, I've been experiencing a bit of a Zeppelin relapse lately, and was listening to Ramble On when I suddenly heard the following lyrics:
...years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair. But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her.
Maybe this is common knowledge, but I always thought Zeppelin and LOTR were at total opposite ends of my personal entertainment spectrum, and I can't say I didn't like having it that way. Weird for something to be so simultaneously awesome and disappointing.
