The Newest Yankee

For the time being, Kei Igawa is the newest Yankee while we all await Doug Mientkiewicz's physical baited-breathedly. Fortunately for all of us, Kei Igawa has granted a generous window into his own personality with an interview at si.com. Among the many pearls:

Q: What's your favorite movie monster?
A: I have none.

Q: Not even Mothra or Rodan?
A: I never watch horror films.

...

Q: Who is your favorite American ballplayer?
A: I do not have a favorite.

Q: Any personal heroes?
A: The goalkeeper for Belgium's national soccer team.

Whoa! Curveball right at the end there.

I guess in all fairness the first question IS a little racist. But it seems to me the Yanks might have gotten another terse, brittle lefty with no media savvy. Great.

Maybe the first question pissed him off so much* that the entire rest of the interview consisted of harsh, split second questions, terse sarcastic replies, and intervening minute to two minute intervals of "how dare you" eye contact on both sides.

*His people have survived a lot of suffering from monster attacks, after all.

I'm surprised there's no program where elderly Japanese women come in to high schools to talk about their experiences under monster attack, so that future generations never forget, or succumb to the monster deniers.
