*Unless you're a baby. Babies are almost entirely made out of water, at a stunning 78% of their body composition. That's where the expression "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater comes from." Because often, babies are mistaken for bathwater. Yup, that's what that expression means, all right.

Assuming you're interested: The phrase "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water." comes originally from the middle ages, when plebian families could only afford but one huge bucket of clean water per year to employ as a bathing facility. The head of the family had first dibs, then the spouse, then kids, extended family, etc.; all the way down the pecking order. Thus, by the time babies had their turn in the bath bucket, the water was filthy (even by midddle aged standards). Since the water would be thrown out after the last person (read: dirty baby) had a rinse, there were apparently several incidents in which small children were literally "thrown out with the bath water." The moral is: If you're going to be cruel enough to go through the motions of "cleaning" an already-disgusting child in stagnant, polluted water, please remember to keep from drowning / disposing of said child afterwards.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong and I'm right.

Could be wrong, though.
