So I don't know why I didn't know about this, but there's a movie coming out called Dave Chappelle's Block Party in which Dave Chappelle throws a block party in Brooklyn, where Kanye West, Common, Mos Def, The Roots, The Fugees and Taleb Kwali all play, among others. Which sounds radical enough. BUT:
Michel Gondry directs.
I'm sure you all know, but he directed "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" plus a million mind-blowing Chemical Brothers & White Stripes videos (most recently for "Denial Twist" which I think was linked on this blog a few months back). Seriously one of my favorite visual artists and probably one of my favorite directors (one of Jerf's favorites for sure). I think it's really cool that he and Dave have gotten together to make it. Check out the trailer - it just seems really joyous and happy and celebratory and without any pretense of trying to be cool. I love it.

Totally. As much as I'm disappointed in Dave's vague reasons for leaving the Comedy Central show, this movie (and Gondry) seem to capture his honest, down-to-earth sense of humor that makes him so endearing.
