;(

This is the least sensical emoticon ever.

The only situation in which I can imagine this emoticon coming in handy is if you believe your IM conversation is being spied on and you want the spy to think that you're sad, but you want the recipient to know that you are, in fact, NOT sad.

And also the spy's computer reads semicolons as colons for some reason.

"You go get 'em, I believe in you, even though it makes me sad." (e.g. leaving you + duffel at the side of a dirt road for the bus to boot camp.)

I just wanted to compliment Murchie on coming up with that sceanrio. Perfect. Not a stretch at all.

Maybe he (she?) should go into business. Emoticons For Every Occassion.

I'm hoping now that I don't sound sarcastic.

Hmmm... Do we have an emoticon for that?

That's sarcasm -- a winking mustache guy.

Close!

But that guy is actually the Viscount - he appreciated your acerbic bon mot and is indicating that perhaps you two share a sort of kinship, unlike the others at this white-tie event.

Perhaps you will speak later on the balcony.

Don't go, Stefan. I'm not sure the Viscount can be trusted.

Besides I was lookig for an emoticon that indicated not sarcasm but a concern that I was being perceived as sarcastic.

something like ;{0, but completely different
