My brother Patrick and I went to a Yankee game on Tuesday night. It was nice to go, particularly since the all-original sketch comedy show we've been working has taken up much of my prized Yankee-watching time. What was less nice was that the Yankees were losing 9-0 after 1.5 innings.
Then the Yankees scored a run. For some reason, the crowd went freaking crazy over this sole run, that only made it 9-1. I have no idea why, but it gave ya hope, ya know? Not enough hope to stop mine and my brother's game of punching the All-Star ballot into hilarious shapes and patterns. But enough hope to not leave.
Then the Rangers scored again and it was 10-1 and I was mad at Aaron Small.
Then it was 10-2, and I had a brief phone conversation.
Then it was 10-3.
Then it was 10-5 and it felt like a ball game.
Then Jorge Posada took the most brutal hit I have ever seen at home plate and the crowd roared. I have never seen a better defensive play live. I couldn't find a picture of it, but this is what he must have felt like afterward.
Then Derek Jeter hit an opposite field 3-run HR and it was 10-8 and the Rangers changed pitchers and everyone at Yankee Stadium was very happy indeed.
Then it was 10-9.
Then it was 11-10 and I was screaming so much that I knew I was going to be very sick the next day (I was).
Then freaking Joe Torre brought in freaking Scott Proctor for the freaking millionth game in a freaking row. Scott Proctor gave up a 2-run HR after two batters. 12-11.
Then Jorge Posada (theme) tied the game with a sac fly. 12-12.
Then Mariano Rivera gave up an RBI single to Rod Barrajas, but it still didn't really feel like we were gonna lose.
Then with two outs in the ninth inning and a man on, Jorge Posada hit a game-winning home run that I couldn't believe and I just dropped my jaw and screamed.
The stats:
-biggest lead overcome in Yankee history
-three leads overcome
-best defensive play I've ever seen
-singular most heroic one man show I've ever seen (Jorge Posada)
-walk-off HR (meaning the game is over so the other (losing) team can just walk off the field)
Good game.

I thought this was a comedy blog.
Other Anonymous, if I can be so bold as to surmise on behalf of the EL crew: This is a blog written by people dedicated to the art of creating and promoting sketch comedy. Of course it's reasonable to expect the majority of posts will be comedic (and Geoff's is no exception), but in no way is that condition required. It's important to realize the members of EL are not simply comedic automata but rather living, breathing people whose interests expand far beyond the performance of hysterical scenarios. In fact, I'd venture that part of the reason the group works so well is that its members are NOT obsessed with comedy 24/7. Variety is the spice of life, my friend.
What does any of this have to do with the Buffalo Sabres?
