Blast From The Past

I'm sure you'll all remember this blogpost of February 25th, 2005, wherein I lamented the loss of Metroid Prime: Echoes. It features what is probably some of my best writing and is a prime (pardon the pun!) example of what I refer to as my "late-mid video game phase." Really, just excellent stuff.

Now of course, here I am in September 2007, in my "mid-late video game phase," playing the next installment of Metroid Prime, entitled "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption." And it's really just not that different. The style is still the same, the game is still great, and the only real difference is that you push and pull the Wii-mote closer to the screen to open certain types of doors. Which some may refer to as "lame" but I refer to as "awesome."

In other worsd, Geoff from the past needn't have worried! He's such a simpleton.

Geoff from the future though? Whoa. I hate that guy.

RIP Scrabulous?

Now it looks like Scrabulous, the Scrabble program within Facebook that is the greatest invention in the history of human creation, will be coming back shortly. But just in case its overwhelming popularity crashes it off of the internet forever, here is the best eulogy I can muster.

Scrabulous gave me my greatest Scrabble moment.

It happened in a game with one Rob C., a person whom I do not know who challenged me to Scrabble. We started playing and whether through a lack of talent or a lack of luck on Rob C.'s part, I leapt out to a commanding lead, probably around 200-120ish. I was coasting by this point, just building simple words and trying to run out the clock.

Around this time I got this rack back: IOOMBZE. Being a member of Elephant Larry, I of course immediately saw the word ZOMBIE.

When my next turn came, I looked for a cross letter to build this word on the board. I saw the word GUILD which I could have crossed the "I" in, or maybe GUILDE was also a word and I could use the "E" twice? (Blogger is telling me guilde is NOT a word. Then again, it also said leapt is not a word).

In the end I decided to bide my time. I would use the extra "O" in my rack and wait for the perfect moment for ZOMBIE. I cross my "O" with "G" making OG (just kidding, GO) and get my next letter back.

It's an S.

I pray Rob C. does nothing with GUILD.

He doesn't.

ZOMBIES/GUILDS.

ZOMBIES triple word score.

122 points.

My greatest Scrabble moment is complete. Thank you Scrabulous. Thank you.

What's Up, Mah Bloggaz?

I case you were wondering, these are the bloggers that were out on the Fabulous Ford Escape From Boredom Vacation On The Lot (tm):

Side note: The more I stare at the word Fabulous, the more I wonder if it isn't spelled Fabolous, which I know is the rapper. But really, doesn't it look wrong spelled with the "u"?

Questions Not Asked

As part of our blog-venture, we got to attend a taping of "On The Lot," and chat with the judges afterwards. Things I did not ask them:

Gary Ross: Why did you make Pleasentville so that, every time it's on, my girlfriend has to watch it?

Penny Marshall: What's up with "A League of Their Own Too?*"

Carrie Fisher: I was at Comic-Con this weekend... How does it make you feel that there were at least a dozen girls walking around in the Slave Leia costume?
For the last one, I didn't need to ask it, because someone else did. Apparently, she doesn't think about it much, but likes the fact that people like the movie. She won't dress in any of the costumes herself, because she considers it the equivalent of "Fan Lapdancing."

And there's your news for the day.

*I really think she should make an updated version, but with all girl hackerz, and call it "A League of Their P0wned." Or maybe "A Haxx0r of Ther P0wned." Or "Teh Haxx0rs."

Line of The Con

For me, the line of this year's San Diego Comic-Con was at the Futurama panel, which was AMAZING, btw. An audience question was "How do you come up with the voices?" which seemed trite, but led to about a 30 minute answer from all the panelists, and was fascinating and amazing.

However, the one thing that made me laugh more than anything else was Maurice LaMarche, who does the voices of Lrrr, Morbo, Kif, Calculon, and a million others, describing the difference between doing Morbo's voice and Lrrr's:

Maurice LaMarche (in Morbo's voice): "Morbo is just like Lrrr, except with BETTER DICTION... BECAUSE MORBO IS A NEWSCASTER!"

I'm Bringing My Heart to San Diego!

Among other pieces of my body, of course. Except my legs. F those mothers.

So as many of you know, I'm a huge comic book nerd, and yet, this will be my first trip out to the largest comic convention... IN THE WORLD: San Diego Comic-Con. Based on the one experience I've had at a large con (E3, with Mr. Stefan Lawrence), I expect that it will be a barrage of light, sound, and really awful smelling dudes.

Luckily, I should have a good amount of stuff to do there to keep me away from Smelly Dude Central, filming shows for this, and more importantly, the panel, info for which is posted below.

If you're gonna be at Comic-Con, drop me a line, and we'll hook up! By which I mean, kiss.

Also, totally seriously, if you come find me on the con floor (I'll be there starting Thursday afternoon), I'll give you a pretty neat gift. I am seriously 100% not joking. And no, Geoff, Stefan, Chris, and Jeff, it's not a "hot sticky gift."
